The “Fourth National Summit of the Health and Population Scientists in Nepal” is one of the most comprehensive Summit of the year 2018 being organized by the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC). NHRC isan autonomous body of Government of Nepal for promoting health research in Nepal. NHRC promotes research culture by facilitating communication between researchers and policymakers to support evidence based health policy and practice. The fourth National Summit is a continuum of the previous summits as an Annual gathering that will provide a platform for researchers and policymakers to share recent and relevant evidence in the area of national health priorities.
After the promulgation of Constitution of Nepal 2015 (2072 B.S), the National Health System has now entered into a Federal Structure. Furthermore, as a signatory member state of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there is an immediate need to embark on SDGs implementation at the subnational levels. The transition will need quality evidence at the level of Federal, Provincial and Local Government. The evidence will then need to be accessible to policymakers for better policy choice.
Health and population scientists can have a major contribution to uncover local evidences, which in turn provides an insight into the need for quality research at the subnational level within the context of changing health systems. The initial tracking of the available evidences become immense in developing and promoting further actions for successfully organizing a sustainable health system at the federal, provincial and the local government levels.
The summit will focus on research conducted on the national health priority areas of Nepal. Beside these priority areas, this summit will focus on bringing academia and industries in health research promotion and role of digital health and big data for promotion of research, innovation and development for economic upliftment of the country. This summit will also focus on need of advancing evidences in changing health systems in the country. Realizing these needs, it is our pleasure to host the Fourth Summit with the theme of “Advancing Evidence for Changing Health Systems”.
